Mitigating IP risks as you do business in Hong Kong and Mainland China

A company’s intellectual property is a valuable asset which should be carefully managed from its inception to its use. As the IP system in China matures, companies intending to do business in China should do their homework, prepare their patents and trademarks and be aware of the IP climate and the unique IP registration system in China.

The good news is that the framework for IP protection in Mainland China is improving and more Canadian firms are successfully navigating the system. Further, Hong Kong as a part of China has become an effective platform for mitigating IP risks given its separate legal system and robust legislative framework for the protection of all forms of IP. Today, Hong Kong is highly regarded as a regional IP services hub throughout Asia with extensive expertise and services available to Canadian firms for transactions in the Mainland and throughout the region.

Join leading patent and trademark experts from BLG, China Patent Agency, local Technology companies and HKTDC as they deliver a multi-faceted discussion on:

  • How Hong Kong as an IP Centre in Asia provides initiatives and services to Canadian companies
  • Effective IP Strategies taken successfully by some Canadian firms in China
  • What you need to know about protecting your patents and trademarks before you go to Hong Kong and Mainland China and what you need to know when you get there
  • “Tales from the trenches” from Ottawa tech companies with real world examples of how they entered the Hong Kong and Mainland Chinese market

Presented by the Hong Kong Canada Business Association (HKCBA) Ottawa Chapter in partnership with BLG LLP, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council ( HKTDC) and Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office Toronto ( HKETO)
